While Indian Summer may be upon us right now, it's beginning to look a lot like autumn in Maine. With temps in the 80s this week, it may not feel like fall is here, but just look up at the trees and you'll see fall colors are beginning to turn. The leaves make their shift from summer greens to harvest hues in the Northern part of the Maine Coast first, but by mid-October Maine foliage is a sight to be seen. Contrast the color of the leaves with a deep blue sea or a blue sky and it's no wonder that people flock to Inns Along the Coast for romantic getaways during this time of year. Return to a crackling fire, a warm toddy and the most comfortable bed you've ever slept in, then start the next day with a scrumptious homemade and hearty breakfast. Now that's what New England fall getaways are all about.
We thought it might be fun to take you on a photo tour of what you'll see along Maine's coast this fall. While admittedly these photos were taken in previous seasons, Mother Nature never disappoints us. Here's what you have to look forward to.
Starting in the Southern part of the state, the colors are in the beautiful decorations found at Captain Jefferds Inn in Kennebunkport.
And each door is highlighted by a beautiful fall wreath at this time of year.
In Freeport, look for fall leaves to highlight the Brewster House B&B.
And with a focus on craft beers sampling, cooking demonstrations and fabulous breakfasts, your innkeepers, Kelleigh and Dave will be on hand to offer a hearty autumn welcome.
Continue traveling up the Maine Coast toward the Midcoast, and you'll find fall foliage scenes that will leave you speechless. LimeRock Inn innkeeper, PJ Walter, has captured some beautiful scenic shots along Maine's Midcoast. Now grab the camera and see these for yourself on your own Inns Along the Coast getaway!
In Newcastle, you'll find the ideal respite at the Newcastle Inn, flanked by beautiful foliage and fall themed window boxes.
Whether you enjoy a glass of wine or sample some of Maine's Craft beer in the pub, filled with innkeeper Julie's collection of board games, or sit and enjoy putting the final piece of the puzzle in the ongoing jigsaw, there are plenty of common rooms at the Newcastle Inn to return to after a day of leaf peeping.
Next stop on our Inns Along the Coast fall photo tour is Camden. As beautiful fall colors ring the harbor, the town is painted in the natural autumn hues and long rays of sunshine during the fall months. Stay at Hawthorn Inn and view the fall colors around the harbor from the back yard or walk the few blocks into town and take in the view from Main Street.
There you have it; an online armchair tour of the inns along the Coast of Maine in all their autumn glory. Wouldn't you love to see it in person? Contact your favorite inn and book your fall getaway soon. We'll continue to see color until late October, so you still have time!
