Festival!

Its Festival season in Maine and the whole state is jumping with concerts, windjammer events, lobster festivals, oyster extravaganza’s and celebrations of all things art. Here’s a little taster of events happening in our wonderful towns this summer.

We are going to start our festival exploration in Freeport with the Maine Oyster Festival, starting June23rd. It’s a taste bud tingling celebration of the Maine oyster and oyster farmers up and down the Maine Coat. Ask your innkeepers at Brewster House for more information.

Rockland hosts the annual North Atlantic Blue Grass Festival from July 15th. Considered one of the most prestigious events on the east coast it is a weekend to mark in your calendar. As well as all day live entertainment the event has food and drink vendors and crafters.

Maine Lobster Festival comes to Rockland from Aug 2nd. Five days of fun and food on the beautiful Maine coast. You will find fabulous local lobster, delicious food, great entertainment, cooking competitions and activities for all age groups as well as craftsmen and local artists. Camden celebrates its maritime history with the Windjammer Festival over Labor Day weekend. See these magnificent vessels in action in the harbor followed by a weekend of events including a lobster crate race, a treasure hunt and many more fun activities.

Camden also holds in annual film festival starting September 14th. Recognized as one of the top documentary film festivals in the world, the Camden International Film Festival (CIFF) is and four day industry leading evetnt and celebration of nonfiction cinema. Up in Newcastle we have the Salt Bay Chamber Fest, from August 7th through the 19th. You will be treated to an array of musical concerts by the finest musicians. Alongside the concert series there are lectures and free community events which this year includes “Music on the River” a one hour performance by renowned violinist Sean Lee overlooking the Damariscotta river. Your innkeepers at Newcastle Inn will be able to supply you with all the information you need on this amazing event, and a great breakfast too.

Up on the Blue Hill Peninsula the Blue Hill Maritime Heritage Festival takes center stage on August 5th. The day is a celebration of local maritime history and includes shipping and history related activities, with boat building demonstartions art, sea shanties and seafood amongst many other fun activities. Plan to stay at Pilgrims Inn for this fun event.

Bar Harbor kicks of its music festival on June 25th with Tenor Kevin Gwinn and Pianist Cara Chowing. A month long extravaganza of music including Chamber Music, Recitals, Opera an Jazz. Ask your innkeepers at Saltair Inn and Holbrook House for more information.
