The Inn

The Holbrook House was one of the first cottages to provide lodging for wealthy Easterners who had discovered the beauty of Mount Desert Island in the late 1800's. Built in 1876 it was spared the devastating fire of 1947, the Inn remains a symbol of gracious hospitality. The Bed & Breakfast has classic accommodations with modern amenities that make it the perfect setting for your Bar Harbor visit. Within walking distance to downtown and so close to Acadia National Park that you can drive, walk or bike right from our inn. Come relax and unwind on the large front porch or beautiful gardens and make their home your escape from the everyday.

All the rooms feature luxury linens, Comphy Sheets, Gilchrist & Soames toiletries, as they love to spoil their guests.

The Breakfast

Food is one of the Holbrook House’s favorite subjects. The innkeepers pride themselves on creating great food for their guests. Taking inspiration from Maine’s bountiful local organic produce sourced from the farmer's market and the inn’s local distributor Native Maine, local organic produce and Maine-made staples are incorporated into handcrafted breakfasts and afternoon tea service. Carrabassett Coffee from Kingfield Maine, Maple Syrup from Spring Break located in Smyrna Mills are two great examples of locally sourced foods served here.

Breakfast is served in the inn’s sun porch each morning from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Home crafted breakfasts are prepared by Michelle and feature a fruit course made with fresh seasonal fruit and an entree alternating between a sweet entree one day and a savory the next.

Michelle and Eric

The Innkeepers

Michelle and Eric have owned the Holbrook House for 11years.

Having spent most of her childhood summer vacations in Bar Harbor Michelle knew that Bar Harbor was where she and Eric wanted to start their married life together. To live life to the fullest and having no regrets. Becoming innkeepers in Bar Harbor was the perfect answer. Living in a town that they love, being so close to Acadia National Park, and taking on a career that allows them to open their home to so many wonderful guests from all over the world, both innkeepers say they could not ask for a better lifestyle. They love to cook for their guests. They also do all their own renovation on the inn in the off-season as they love to design and remodel. They live with their 2 dogs, Pooka a 7 year old Morkie that they rescued and a new addition, Gracie Ann a young pug who keeps them on their toes.

The Grounds

Large front porch filled with wicker rocking chairs, a large side yard sprinkled with Adirondack chairs surrounded by gardens tended by Michelle’s mom, there are ample places at the Holbrook House to sit outdoors and enjoy the sea breeze and a glass of wine. Inside the inn is a beautiful parlor with a gas fireplace to chase away the chill in the night’s air and a library filled with games, puzzles and books to fill those rainy days or nights. The Holbrook House has plenty of common spaces to spread out and relax.

The Location

Ideally situated in the Historic District of Bar Harbor, the Holbrook House is just a short walk from the shops and restaurants in “downtown” Bar Harbor. Casual Irish pubs, fine dining, lobster, lobster and more lobster and everything in between, Bar Harbor is your “oyster” for dining choices. The Holbrook House is also so close to multiple different entrances to Acadia National Park that you can drive, walk or bike right from our inn. Let them help find your way to the day’s adventure.
